Now I know that the A-H used AIII's & D7's but today in Barns & Noble I was looking at a small book on the Polish Air Force. In it it had a picture of Stefan Stec(3 WWI kills-2 P-R war kills) in a (I can't remeber)a Fokker EV or a Fokker DV monoplane. But it looked like a DVIII monoplane. Was the EV or the DV monoplanes? And here is the main question. It said that Stec brought the plane to serve in the Polish air force in November 1918. I t also said that the Poles addopted Stec's red & white checkerboard insignia(Link also used this in 1917). So did the A-H use Fokker monoplanes besides the AI-III(EI-III)?????

Keith,

P.S. I just joined the only A-H RB3D squadron! Flik61J.

Stec carried his personal chequerboard marking on an OEF Alb DIII when in Austrian service, his EV was drawn from German stocks. Austria supposedly had some DVI, though I have yet to see a picture. Anybody out there have the Marty O'Connor book? The Dr1 was down for licence production but I believe only one was built and that with a lengthened fuselage. I dont suppose the Dual Monarchy had very many rotary engines available.

The Austrians DID use the Fokker D.VI mainly as an advanced trainer. They bought a fair number of them. The D.VIII were never used to my knowledge by the A-hers during the war but were used by former pilots after the war in the many smaller conflicts that spread around Eastern Europe.

Keith,

The EV was the 5th monoplane to come from Fokker. Some of the first at the front experienced wing failures in flight, and they were grounded. When the problem was found (rot from condensation inside the wing), a new wing was developed and fitted, and the designation was changed to DVIII. Some people use EV and DVIII interchangeably for the same aircraft.

Keith, I've been looking for a photo I have of Stec's EV with the wing scrunched up. My Polish is worse even than my French so Lord knows what the caption says. Possibly it was done deliberatly when the a/c was scrapped. Anyway I can't find it so boohoo!
Off topic but something you have expressed interest in previously are the Toko A-H kits. These are available here now and I shall be collecting mine on Sunday. First reports are very good, especialy the Berg D1 which is Link-Crawfords with losenge fabric of correct colour and patern supplied as a decal.

VBR

Keith, want to be totally confused. I have two photos of Polish EVs, one with the munched up wing, SN EV 185/18, which shows a white "002" in front of a horizontal "8" figure with a 2 color star in the middle. This photo is from "Fokker Fighters of WWI" by Alex Imrie. The second photo shows an EV in much better shape, with a "lazy S" figure and the same 2 color star in the center. Both AC have the checkerboard Polish insignia on the fuselage. The second foto is from the Fokker DVIII Profile Publication. Hope this helps.
