It's not often we run across actual pieces of WW1 aviation history, but several years ago I attended a mess dinner in Saint John,New Brunswick. We had been invited as guests of the Byng Boys - a vets group that was formed in Saint John after WW1.
Above the main table was a huge piece of material decorated with the typical WW1 German cross symbol. One of the founding members of the Byng Boys - Wendall Rogers - had donated the cross to the club.He had cut it from the Gotha he had shot down. Here is proof that at least one British/Commonwealth pilot actually did shoot down a German plane in WW1!
