Off the beaten track perhaps, but we can all use a break.

I was playing Red Baron II last night on my new souped up PC w/ all patches (read: bells and whistles) in place and going full blast. I was flying as Gunther von Buren in my custom painted (Raven and 4 chicks on the fuselage) Fokker DVII, the date was August 1, 1918. My wingman and I were escorting 4 Halberstadt CLIIs on a bombing mission to an Allied aerodrome south of Metz.

After an uneventful trip to the target and the subsequent bombing, my wingman, Lt. Adler, and I spotted 2 French Brueget (sp?) bombers. We immediately pursued and I foolishly headed straight for the lead bomber, allowing his partner to pepper me w/ a stream of lead. I quickly turned in and under my adversary to limit my exposure but in doing so I lost some altitude.

Climbing back into the fight I witnessed Lt. Adler bore in on the trailing bomber firing burst after burst. The Frenchman was soon is flames and headed towards the ground. As he passed underneath me I heard the screams of the crewmen as they jumped from their flaming tomb.

I followed Lt. Adler who was now intent on kill #2. In his zeal he must have misjudged his closing speed for he collided with the French bomber in a very horrifying (but impressive) mass of broken and twisted wreckage! The fuselage remnants soon separated and began their solitary plunges toward earth.

Wow, what a scene!!! This sim IS the best one out there for our "thing", and I’m sure those who play know exactly what I mean.

P.S. Lt. Adler got posthumous credit for both victories.

Regards,
Scott Ryan.

If you want to see what can be done with von Tom's Campaign manager, check out http://www.billybishop.net/redbaron.html.

I've got letters and combat reports of four different pilots I've played in RB23D. The reports tell one part of the story, the letters another.

Right now, I've got four stories there, three of them are dead, and I'm about to add a 5th, and maybe a 6th to it as well. I try to fly each one differently, as I'd expect them to be somewhat different in their fighting styles and personality. Some of the letters and such are rather entertaining too.

VBR,

Al Lowe

Cool, I usually just get shot down. But I do more multiplayer. You should try that too! The game is very much fun, however there should be more interaction with teammates. It's also too easy, MP is MUCH harder.

Greetings,

Too easy? Well, shucks, you know there's a slider in preferences that adjusts computer pilot AI, you should try that. ALSO, check out the Flight Sim forum on delphi Forums for the latest info on UnOfficial Patches. There are new damage model and flight model patches out to fix problems with the IN BOX flight and damage models. These make things much more realistic.

Al Lowe
