Yup, I found a relative, 2nd or 3rd cousin, and you'll NEVER guess what the family name is. >-).

Yup, I couldn't believe it. Looks like I need to re-arrange my trip to Canada for this one.

VBR,

Al Lowe

Deep down inside , you knew that you were connected to Bishop, and know you know for sure.

Somehow, I don't think many of us are surprised.

How did you find out about this guy?

While you're in Canada you should look up a few other relatives. I have heard there's a grandson(also named Bill Bishop) and of course Arthur Bishop is still alive and writing books. I believe both of them live in Toronto. There's also a grand-daughter named Catherine Willis-O'Connor who was living in Ottawa in 1986.

Basically, I got this piece of spam email, with a very unique TO: field. ALL the people listed have the same last name, LOWE. While I ususally dump spam mail like that, I couldn't resist sending an email to the TO: list just to see what would happen.

Basically I said something like "We should have a "LOWE" convention some time."

I got several responses, one of which introduced himself as from the Lowe's of Barrie, Ontario, Canada.

Naturally, we started conversing about Canada and things Canadian, and in THAT message, I used my standard sig file(I didn't use it in the first message.), that advertises my web page.

Well, he came back and told me that he was related to Billy Bishop, his maternal grandmother's father was a cousin to Bishop. That makes him about a 4th cousin I believe.

Anyway, I'm working on confirmation. But I want to be delicate in this matter. It's not nice to just come up and say "That's not possible.", if you know what I mean.

But he seems to be sincere enough, and where he lives is not too far off my planned course for my next trip so I just might be able to stop and talk to him for a while.

Still, I was rather surprised. ...sort of. >-).

VBR,

Al Lowe
