I am currently working on a Web site dealing with Luftstreitfrafte Pilots from mid 1914-1918. I am having some difficulty in regards to the personal paint schemes of ANY aircraft flown by Hauptmann Oswald Boelcke. It is not the actual pictures themselves I am having trouble finding, just the particulars concerning colors, themes, and werk numbers that Boelcke may have used as a member of Jasta 2. Any information anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I'm at work right now so don't have it to hand, but "Eisern Kruez & Balken Kreuz" illustrates a Fokker DIII. Serial number is given and the caption says red cowling and forward panels on plain finish, though the wings look camoufalged in the photo. Anyone have the latest, Fokker Fighters monograph from Albatros? That might help. If no-ne comes up with the goods befor then I'll scan the picture and post it here when I get home.

Cheers 'n' beers

For what it's worth here it is. I don't know how accurate Eisernes Kreuz & Balkenkreuz is considered to be these days, but I'm sure we're in the right place to find out.

Boelcke's Albatros D-2 was number 386/16. It had the normal 3 color paint pattern of red brown, dark green and light green. This plane was the first of have the radiator in the wing instead of the twin fuselage ones.

Nick, it would be remis of me not to mention this. Last night I got a look at the new Windsock Fokker DI-IV Special. The same DIII is illustrated but with no mention of Boelcke. My feeling is that if the author was aware of the connection it would have been mentioned. Just to say it's worth checking this one before committing to print.
