I am hoping that maybe someone out there can assist with a question. I have several letters of correspondence from the Military Museum in Sofia, Bulgaria ( dated 1964 ) which mention the downing of a "VE" type aircraft piloted by a Major Moore ( RFC / RAF ), on July 8, 1917 near the City of Petrich by a Bulgarian aircraft. The letter further lists that Major Moore was made a POW. I would like to know the full identity of Major Moore, his unit, aircraft type, and any other details. If someone can offer any help in the matter I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you once again. JF

The Bulgarian Air Force claimed their first air-to air victory this date according some source. The German Sofia reports says: Offst Balan and offst Uzanow shot down a e/a in combat with 6. The a/c fell at Patrich. The enemy pilot Odvier was taken POW. STB(Sky The Battlefield) reported Capt JEA O`Dwyer from 17sg RFC POW. STB also reported Lt. HC Brufton from 47sg KIA. They may have flown the together in this a/c(flight). Balan and Uzanow was reported to be from Bulgarian Flabt 1. No mention of this Moore unfortunate

On 5 Jan 1917 Lt Ivan Usunoff-Lt Vahavchieff of
Bulg.Flabt 1 shot down an English fighter plane over english lines according to the CC article of
the Bulgarian Air Force.
Strangely the German pilot Lt Becher of FA 30 claimed shooting down an AWFK3 in German lines
this day. This victory was not confirmed to Becher, because the british pilot claimed that he
had not seen any German a/c. The same German source says that bullets holes were found in the wrecked a/c.
According to STB 47sq lost 2lt AD Pocock POW.
So there is a possibility that Pocock infact was
confirmed to the Bulgarian crew.
¨The victory on 30 sept 1916 which i have written about earlier was also a counterclaim.
