Well, there are offensive patrols, you cross the enemy lines and basically provoke a fight;

combat air patrols, you go to a spot on your side of the lines and stop the bad guys from bombing it;

Balloon buster missions, self-explanatory;

barrage patrols, you go to a place on your side of the trenches, OVER the trenches usually, and keep the enemy from crossing into your territory;

Airfield raids, you go and attack an enemy airfield, usually with most of your squadron;

Escort missions, you escort bomber/recon aircraft so they can accomplish their goals, thereby accomplishing yours.

And that's almost it, I think. There used to be ground attack missions, but they pretty much disappeared after the last patch update. But once you're of high enough rank, you can always assign yourself to lone-wolf missions and go do what you want. I once racked up a total of 60+ balloons that way.

VBR,

Al Lowe

All I can say is watch out for those Nieuports! You will shred the wings off an Alb D-II if you try to turn with them/ Best to keep altitude on them if you can. Also if you happen to be married, best to kiss your wife goodbye for a while. You shan't be seeing her.

Actually, it's the Albatross DIII's that have a serious problem with losing wings. But if you're careful, you can still manage to out do the Nieuport 11 and 17. The 24 you gotta watch out for, it's got twin vickers, which isn't historically correct, but it makes for a mean opponent.

Al Lowe

What I miss in RB3 is the "fight a Zeppelin" that was so frustrating in RB1. The only time I succeeded in downing one, I got caught in the blast. (Wonder why they didn't include that this time.)

I don't know Mike, that's one of the things the many faceless/nameless playtesters were screaming for and they told us it wouldn't fly. I guess with all the other stuff, adding the Zeppelin would have created too big of a redesign. Maybe in RB4?

Al,
Could be that the Zeppelin programmer made so much money on his Sierra stock that he opted for early retirement. (And he's probably in his mid twenties...dammit!)
In a world where a 13-year old kid in Arkansas might be the (illigitimate) son of our beloved horndog-in-chief, anything is possible.
Regards,
Mike

Ah, who knows. But I do miss being able to fly over London or Paris. I wish they hadn't taken those away. I especially loved flying under London Bridge, and THROUGH the Eiffel Tower.

Bruno Stachel, eat your heart out!
