Barker was, even then, known for being somewhat impulsive. However, given that he was a flight commander with responsibility for the safety of the pilots under his command, I doubt that he would have done anything extreme, especially on the RFC's first day of operations. That's not to say that he didn't do something that was subsequently "hushed up". One for all the conspiracy theorists?
