This is probably my last message before the festering season descends upon us once more, so Merry Christmas to one and all.

Yet with the woes of sin and strife
The world has suffered long;
Beneath the heavenly strain have rolled
Two thousand years of wrong;
And man, at war with man, hears not
The tidings which they bring;
O hush the noise, ye men of strife,
And hear the angels sing!

VBR

Graeme:
If that's an original composition, you are to be congratulated, sir! If not, you're still due a note of appreciation.
Break-break.
During this season I do get a bit nervous about hearing the angels sing. Day after tomorrow they'll be singing "Happy birthday" and it makes me edgier with each passing year! (WW I content: Christmas Eve will be Guynemer's 106th birthday)

I wish I were that original. It's a verse from the carol "It came upon the midnight clear"; the words are based on a poem written by Unitarian minister Dr Edmund Sears in 1849. The following year, inspired by the poem, Richard Storrs Willis, a composer as well as editor and critic for the New York Tribune, wrote a melody called "Carol" to which the words were adapted.

Just seemed very appropriate.

It's now 09:15 Saturday and I suppose I'd better go and do my Xmas shipping!

Merry Christmas
