This is a military forum "...there is no racial bigotry here. We do not look down upon:Huns, Heinies, Krauts, Yanks, Limies, Aussies, Frogs...here you are all equally worthless!"
To paraphrase a popular American cult film classic known as "Full Metal Jacket".

And while we're dealing with matters of major importance, my incessant web surfing turned up this explanation of the source of the term "doughboy".

Enjoy,

While we're discussing seasonal PC stuff...did anybody else hear about the woman in the UK who objects to the term snow MAN? She says it's just an atavistic holdover of the old sexist, chauvinist, warmongering tendency of the testosterone propelled segment of the human race.
At this rate we can't even talk about snow BALLS! (Mandatory WW I content: wasn't there a snowball fight during the Christmas truce of 1914?)

Barrett,
History books tell of the "spheroid exchange" that you mentioned. Seems one of the missiles from the German side had a chunk of ice in it; a flagrant violation of the Geneva Convention. Angry British troops started putting pebbles in their snowballs, one thing led to another, and soon the sides were using lethal means to settle the dispute.

As an American of Scots-Irish and German heritage, I cam simultaneously lay claim to the titles of Yank, Jock, Mick and Kraut. This forum is generally good natured, and the truly bigotted don't fair well here. I too have read of the spheroid exchange. But, as I recall, each side blamed the other for throwing the first stone. Don't they always? Merry Christmas, Joyeuse Noel, Frohliche Weinachts to all.

I am at a loss for words, this disregard for the finer feelings of the nobler among us borders on the priggish.Hope I never get like that.

Everyone who thought that Jim was PC and afraid to speak his mind, please raise your hand.
