Gentlefolks -
If I am interested in one particular US Air Service officer and all I have is his name (no unit assigns) and home town - how would I go about tracking his service records down ?

Many thanks in advance,
Mike

Micheal,

I recently emailed the NARA for the same thing, they promptly mailed back a form with which to send off to get a copy of a servicemens records. I dont know what comes back yet as I havent sent the form off. If you find a better or more direct way to get an individuals USAS service records, I would be very interested.

Hi Michael:
You'll need a "180 Form": These are available at the Website: http://www.nara.gov.regional/mprfs180.html...BR> Written requests for the form may be directed to: National Personnel Records Center: 8600 Page Blvd. St. Louis, Missouri, 63132
Best regards and good luck! .......Lee

Hi; NARA has a microfilm group [6 rolls I beleive] that has Squadron rosters of all Aviation AEF troops in WWI. I am going to order it and will let the forum know what it is like when I get it. There are also several books out that have many names listed. What was his name?

Jack - Thanks for the update. There is no one name - I've been compiling the bios of over 630 pilots/gunners who were NJ residents during WWI. I'm just about done, but ahve a few I have not been able to find anything at all on. I expect most were never posted overseas so they are sort of lost int he mix. I do have about 60 names with nothing more than a rank/hometown. If the NARA list is only AEF postings, I expect most of these MIA's will not show up, but would appreciate a note either way.

Thanks again to everyone who has posted so far - Happy holidays.
-Mike
