Pardon me, I know that this isn't WWI, but dang! it's a good idea.
I watched the movie "The Rock" (starring Sean Connery)at a friend's house yesterday, and I couldn't help but think that Ed Harris (playing a General in this) has a very uncanny resemblance to FeldMarschal Erwin Rommel. He played the part very well. I believe that if anyone does another film about Rommel, they should really consider Ed Harris for the part! Anyone else input?

It's no use. Every time movies get discussed here, everybody starts drooling about the "towel scene".

Maybe, but he's going to have a hard time, learning to have a German accent.

James Mason didn't need a German accent to play Rommel--he played the role with a British accent! But then did you ever notice that most movie Romans have British accents? Hmmm...most peculiar.
Come to think of it, though, most Roman movies have towel scenes. But I don't think that Ursula ever appeared in one (a Roman movie, that is. We alread know that she...oh well...)
Where were we?
Oh yes. The last cinematic version of Rommel that I saw was "The Longest Day" and the actor was horribly miscast--didn't resemble anybody famous, let alone The Desert Fox. However, Erich von Stroheim played Rommel in "Five Graves to Cairo" and resembled TDF even less.
Mandatory WW I aero content: EvS played the CO of Jasta 21 or somesuch in "Grand Illusion" (the title of which is still under question as to significance.)

Whatt to juu mihn witt a tscherman akkzent?
Hmm.. do you really think a Rommel movie would be a great idea? Or do to be more OT, do you consider his trench raids in WWI are worth to make a movie? Really? I don't think so. WW I is a century ago and maybe perhaps 50% of the standard puplic never heard of any details.

A young Rommel won the Blue Max in WWI. But a stirring war film about Germans and Italians fighting in the mountains. Would we watch it? I don't know, but I did like James Mason's version of the Fox fighting the Brits in the desert.

If Hollywood can make "Ishtar" they can make a Rommel movie, anything is possible.
Personally no movie can compare with WWII documentary "World At War" episode 25 (i think) "The Desert Fox". The truth of history is always better than fiction.
I think Hollywood should stick to it's fantasy, people go to movies for that fantasy. If they are going to make a WWI movie, the best way is A LA "Blue Max" with fictional characters.
My pet idea is an adaptation of the 1988 computer adventure game "Heart of China", and Ex-WWI American ace, a ninja, a billionaire's daughter...what a story! Still one of my all time favs 12 years later. Not enough movies made about the 20's these days

I'm wondering if Barrett loves boxing movies because someone inevitably "throws in the towel".
The lad is fixated, I tell you.
