Link Between MvR and Schumi

Hi there,

I was thinking about the following, has anyone of you ever noticed that there are strange similarities in the careers of Manfred von Richthofen and Formula one driver Michael Schumacher?

Schumi, just like MvR has a all red car. ( MvR's plane of course. )

Schumi's brother is in the same line of profession as micheal, just like Manfred and Lothar.

Lothar had a yellow cowl on most of his planes and ralf schumacher drives a yellow car

The other thing was that when Schumi scored his 41 grand prix victory he was reminded of the fact that he had just come even with his great idol Ayrton Senna, who had DIED a few years before( boelcke?)

He cryed during the interview. Was MvR not sad that he hat surpassed the man that he called a Hero?

Both have been injured severely in there line of work. Schumi broke both legs in the 1998-1999 Silverstone Grandd Prix. MvR almost had his head shot off.

Please give me your opinion on how you see this link

To carry the analogy further look at the similarities between Bernie Ecclestone and Kaiser Wilhelm (Inbred, deformed, paranoid meglomaniacs).

Please consider that there is a great difference between MvR and "Schumi" : MvR paid taxes in Germany, "Schumi" doesn't !!

Schumi will be beaten by Villeneuve, a Canadian, just like Roy Brown...

How can you compare Formula One to just poncing about over the lines in a WW1 biplane?
What I mean is we all know motor racing is a bit dicey.

Ginger: Good thought. It should be fairly easy to compute the mortality rate in F1 competition in a given period, though of course some greats (Clark & McLaren come to mind) were killed in other types of racing. However, it's harder to get exact figures for WW I aviation. I'd estimate a 20-25% fatality rate.
John Keegan did a similar comparison in (I think) The Face of Battle, by far his best book, if you ignore the absurd closing paragraph. He contrasted extreme mountaineering with "extreme" military ops (the airborne invasion of Crete) but I don't recall the relative values. His definition of extreme climbing was attempting the Winter Eiger North, definitely a sporty course.
