I've been trying for some time to get hold of Red Baron 3D for the PC without any success. Does anyone know a site where I can buy it from and is it any good, in gameplay or realism? Or better still, does anyone know if there are any PC games in the pipeline involving WW1 air combat?

Thanks in advance

Red Baron III rocks! If you're budget conscious or unsure if a WWI sim is your bag, I've seen Red Baron II in discount racks for $10.

You GOTTA get yourself a force-feedback flight stick ($150) that rattles when you fire your guns, shudders when you're hit by bullets or flak, and wrenches sickeningly in your hands when you crash. Other musts: good surround-sound playback ($150) and a fan above your monitor, pointed in your face on "High"($30).

I remain,
RayK

i'm still waiting for the RD3D folks to put a gun in the backseat of an F2B. Lookout on-line when they do.

They've got two-seaters firing the rear-gun online...however it's not the best setup yet.

The mod has it so the gun still fires forward but the bullets fire 200 ft behind the aeroplane. the bullets pass through the 2-seat, but are lethal to everyone else. It's extreemly hard to shoot, that said, there have been some 2-seat to scout kills made with this setup. Earlier i think it was blackjack who got the rear gunner fully operational, however the crazy SOB would shot at EVERYTHING, friendly enemy, and i think even stationary objects if they were close enough.

Someday they'll make a sim with less eye candy and more gameplay.

Another thing I forgot to mention:
You need one of the Voodoo based cards to get the 3d graphics. The Voodoo 2 seems to be quite a bargain these days and you can run it with your existing graphics card.

I bought mine at Staples about 6 months ago for $20 in the bargain bin, but they have pretty much all been snapped up. Hurry you may still get one. It is a truely fine WWI sim, IF you use some of the VERY decent patches out. Go to www.wingsofhonor.com for the patches. They really improve the game. That said, it is a true pity that Sierra didn't allow the pilot to fly two seaters. I would have enjoyed bombing from an FE5, and a Roland, or flying escort fighters like the Bristol. Dawn of Aces (online) did that very well, and even allowed the solo pilot to jump into the back seat to defend the aircraft. Also allowed you to conduct Artillery shoots on enemy positions. That was way cool.

Buy it. You won't regret it.

Yes, everyone, it is worth your money to buy Red Baron 3D; it's got good graphics, and I love the realism. (Even though I absolutely STINK at it and had to use rockets to shoot down a French bomber . . . ) My favorite part is the little films from Intelligence. So funny . . .
