Armitage served with 47 Squadron in Macedonia and Russia. He was never an ace, so I can't look him up in the usual places. He shot-down at least one and possibly two aircraft. I have a piece of dirty old fabric with a Maltese Cross on the back of which is written "Cut from tail of Hun Aircraft SHOT DOWN by Lt. Armitage RFC" along with names of several pilots in the squadron. According to a list of decorations in H.A.Jones, M.C.'s book "Over the Balkans and South Russia," there was a Lt. J.P. Armitage in the squadron as well as F/Sgt. P. Armitage No.313012, probably the same chap. Can anyone help me find background on Armitage ? A picture? Barely recognizable numbers on back may indicate date shot down was June 18, 1918. which would correlate with Vfw. Erich Durre of Jasta 38 who was shot down that date over Stojakowo, Macedonia. Any corroboration or background on Durre much appreciated.

If you feel good about calling a German flyer a Hun, would you be offended if I call Monsieur Armitage a Frog?
