my grandfather was awarded the mc in the great war, but i cannot find his name listed why?
his name was either-thomas percivale bates-or
percivale thomas bates

Military Crosses would be announced ("gazetted") in the London Gazette, and the various issues of the London Gazette were indexed. Have you consulted London Gazettes ? Incidentally, was he Royal Flying Corps or in land forces ?
