I am looking for any history and information I can find on 59 Squadron and the biography of Lieutenant CHARLES HERBERT MORRIS,59th Sqdn.,RFC, who was killed on 13 April 1917 - was he part of the squadron of R.E.8's downed by Jasta 11 on that day? Any information at all is most welcome.

Regards
Richard J Morris

Hi,
Yes, RE8 from No 59 Sqnd flown by Capt GB Hodgson and Lt CH Morris flying A3126 fell to Lothar von Richthofen that day at 0855 am NE of Biache.
Jasta 11 was in form that day and claimed 5 out of a flight of 6 that day.
It was Lothars 4th victory.

The Re8s were reconnoitring railway line from Quiery-la-Motte to Etaing, near Jasta 11 airfield at Douai. It appears that escorts got detained or left late, thus leaving the Re8s as 'easy' pickings for the German scouts.
