I'm running a web-based plqay by Email game for some mates- it's working pretty well at the moment. One of the players has come up with the following:

"I wish to construct a tannoy system along the frontline. This system will be used to broadcast good news to the troops in our line throughout the day. Every hour messages will be relayed in German telling them of our successes, broadcasting propaganda, and urging the enemy soldier to surrender."

Now I reckon that audio technology didn't stretch that far- in so much as they were dealing with low voltage- low volume stuff. I'd say that it wasn't possible- or if it was, that the amount of power required would make it implausable.

Does anyone know if this was ever used, and if so, how?

Cheers

Stick the message on a big sheet and hoist it on the parapet, giving the Hun something to shoot at.

Even better- hoist the message as before, but employ every sniper in the sector and see who's stupid enough to read it...

Seriuosly though, what was the state of "audio technology" in 1916?

Gramophones. Put one at either end of the room, hope you start them at the exact same instant, and "Voila!"......tinny stereo.
