I am not a model builder and more interested in the man than the airplane markings but I think at least one of both pilots changed the original Lahmann-stag. Look at Windisch´s stag on his Fokker D.VII (photo Ferko in O´Connor vol.2?) and you will not notice another colour for the antlers.

Or is it not possible to see the difference between gold and silver on monochromatic photographs???

Got just another idea. How about this?

Maybe Degelow did not make a wrong statement. He took over the symbol of the pub, which had before taken over but modified (with golden antlers) the coat of arms of the Sanatorium. Maybe the owner of the pub believed to avoid law suites on this way. O.K. - I admit that is a wild speculation.

I think Pearson's post on that other forum was a little mislading when he suggests that the analogy if the Vargas girl of WWII. He made it sound like the reference was to "White Stag Beer" or something!

"see for example the advertisment reprinted in the Fokker Anthology No 2, p. 49."
Shame on me, but I don't have that collection. What appear to be the colors used?

Stef

PS. Thanks, too, to the other respondents.

PPS. One asked whether gold would be differentiated on black-and-white photos. The answer should be yes. Look at the tonal rendering of the PLM on most of your Sanke card portraits of medal winners.

If you want to see a good reproduction of the photo of Ltn Degelow's flipped Pflanz DIII it can be seen on page 73 of Cross & Cockade International Journal. From this photo I think that the wings were black and that the stag was white not silver with gold antlers. I beleive that he flew and crashed this DIII while with Jasta 7 on the at around 12.45 pm on 23/3/18 when according to the Jacobs diary "Upon landing Ltn Degelow raced against a 30kph wind, machine turned over, he remained completely unhurt." He was soon back in action that very afternoon. Hope this helps you.
