I am the grandson of Lt Norman Roberts DFC who flew with 48 sqadron in 1918 (see information on this site) I am trying to find as much out as I can about his time there, we have some stories of what he did but believe there may be more to tell, if anyone has any information, photos etc I would be most grateful, In particular we are trying to find any photos of a Bristol Fighter F2B bearing the number 13 as this would have been his plane

Many Thanks

2nd Lt Norman Roberts scored two victories in F2b C6403 (on 12 March 1918), one in C805 (on 10 May), one in C983 (on 25 June) and one on C943 (27 June). Unfortunately I can't say which, if any, of these machines was the number 13 to which you refer.

He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the announcement appearing in the London Gazette of 21 September 1918.

Andy,
You may have noticed that there is no information on Norman Roberts' page on this website about his birth or death. Could you supply date and place of birth, and date and place of death? And if the death was aviation related, any details. I would like the information for my files, the webmaster will update Roberts' page, and I will pass the information to Chris Shores, Norman Franks, and Russell Guest, as update material for Above the Trenches.

Frank.
