I was going through some old papers yesterday and found an ad, undated, which was published by BMW autos claiming that MvR(They ccalled him the Red baron) had flown unnamed airplanes with BMW engines. That doesn't sound right unless he flew one at the first fighter trials in a Fokker DVII. I thought that was powered by the 160HP Mercedes.
Rapp was the predecesor of BMW. Did they ever build an engine which ended up in a production fighter? I don't believe I have ever seen a repeat of this ad.

Leo,
referring to the final report by the "Commission Aéronatique Interalliée de controle en Allemagne" BMW produced during the war:
120-160hp Rapp engines: n.296
260-300hp Austro-Daimler: n.29
BMW IIIa: n.591
These figures could be referred just to the "new" factory built at Milbersthofen after Camillo Castiglioni had gained control of Rapp and turned its name into BMW.
Thus probably lack exact engine production figures referred to the Rapp factory itself,I mean the factory with this name with workshops at Munich -Schleissheimerstrasse.
In my opinion it's unlikely that any german fighter, also if at prototype stage, was powered by Rapp engines. With all her desperate need of engines the KuK Marine didn't dare to install them in her fighters due to the low weight-power ratio.
VBR

AGO: Thanks for the come back. I understand that Rapp engines had reliability problems as well.
