Hi, I am looking for relatives of this Air Marshall, My mother was Elizabeth Breadner and I was seperated from the family when I was 6, that was 35 years ago. If anyone has information that would help in retracing my lineage I would be beholden, thanks Don

Lloyd Samuel BREADNER was born in Carleton Place, Ontario, 14 July 1894 and by the time he enlisted in the Royal Naval Air Service his home was in Ottawa and his occupation was listed as jeweller. Other information I have to hand says that he became Chief of the Air Staff (of the Royal Canadian Air Force) in 1940 with the rank of Air Chief Marshal and died in Boston, USA in 1953.

Hope this helps

You may like to get a hold of the Windsock Datafile Special on the Sopwith Pup, it has a couple of pictures of LS Breadner in Pups N6181 'HAPPY' and N6183 'MILDRED H.' whilst with 3 Sqd RNAS, plus a colour profile of N6181.

The Windsock range of books are used by WW1 historians/modelers, and are very detailed. Each book is dedicated to a specific aircraft. They are distributed in America by;

Bill Dean Books Ltd
PO Box 69
New York 113575

Although you could probably get hold of a copy from any online model shop - Hannants in the UK ship worldwide (www.hannants.co.uk)

You may also like to check out Above The Trenches by Christopher Shores, Norman Franks & Russell Guest. This book has infomation on British Aces of WW1. Lloyd Sammual Breadner's entry is on page 84. You should be able to get hold of this book from a library, but if you have any difficulties drop me a line and I'll copy the information from the book and email it to you.

VBR,

Vince
