All:

One of the problems about not having your own computer is that you cannot always get on line when you wanna. I wanted to post this on Friday, but such was not to be, so belated birthday greetins to all Marines everywhere (including any or our "globe-and-laurel" brothers in the UK).

From our humble beginnings in a Philadelphia slop chute, we have gone on to be what we are: the best on land, on sea, and in the air. Two hundred and twenty-five years in the business, and still going strong!

Semper Fidelis!

Geez, I hate to be a wet blanket, but you neglect to mention Delta Force, the Navy Seals and the Rangers. The Rangers are older, and survive to this day.
The SAS is a counter terrorist group.
In 1950, the U.S. Army retreated from the Yalu River in N. Korea. The Marines walked right beside us and "the Marines have never, ever retreated."
Why don't you just dedicate your toast to ALL elite groups everywhere. Each and every one has contributed equally. And, each and every one have sacrafices many good men to the cause of freedom.
May you all BEAT THE CLOCK

I learned a healthy respect for the Corps and individual Marines while I was in the Navy. I probably still have some lumps on my head as a result of the learning process. Happy Birthday Jar Heads.

While the SAS may classify itself as a counter terrorist group, please know that it is considered a pack of unprincipled butchers by some others.

Hmmmmm. . .the Ranger line goes back to at best 1763, when Roger's Rangers fought for the Crown. NO American linkage there. The NEXT point in time is 1942 when LtCol William O. Darby gives birth to the Rangers anew. After the Rangers are exterminated by the Germans at Anzio, the program falls into abandon (although Rangers are instrumental at Normandy and a few other landings, their overall impact is zero after Anzio) and Darby goes on to be ADC of 10th Mountain Division in Northern Italy (and dies there).

In the 1960's the Ranger program comes back. But of their genuine line there is five years in the 18th Century, three years in WWII, and thirty-five years since their reinception.

Senior? I THINK NOT! Boots!!! Against 43 years of genuine service (five of which were to a foreign power!!!!), their pathetic record pales to that of the USMC! If you can't see that, get some new glasses.

By the way, I saw the 75th Infantry (Rangers) at Grenada. Pinned down for three hours by Cuban engineers (in effect, by six hand-held automatic weapons) the vaunted Rangers were rescued by two platoons of Marine riflemen atop four M-60a3 tanks. A MOST embarrassing moment that the Ranges would rather forget. NOT A CHANCE!!!!!

SeAL's and SAS are mere assasins. They have their place, but no more.

Semper Fi!

Happy belated birthday to the U.S. Marines. The closest I've come to being a marine is that I have two nephews who served in the Corps.
God bless the Marines!

The first law of Bragging is that every man is allowed to beat his own drum...So here's to shooter one of the few surviving slivers of that old elite that's left. I've seen too many go in from our ships and not come back.
Shooter: with all that dough you got from the insurance, you can afford a little ole iMac (less than 900 bucks).
