Kirschstein's rise from anonymity to Germany's fastest scoring ace is an interesting story I would like to know more about.

Arriving at Jasta 6 just in time for the German offensive, Kirschstein scored his 1st victory during the well-publicized "greatest dogfight of the war" on March 18. At the time of MvR's death, I believe he had six victories, and was at 20 by the 1st of June. Kirschstein, by now the leader of Jasta 6, appeared to be rapidly overtaking Löwenhardt and Udet when he was killed in a crash in the back seat of a Hannover in mid July.

Can anyone provide some details about Kirschstein's rapid rise to the top?

Mark,

Can't give a lot of details at this time myself, but if you'd like to see a beautifully built and photographed model of Kirschstein's DrI, go to Aircraft Resource Center (www.aircraftresourcecenter.com).
