I also have in Glencoe models spad book, a symbol used on N65 planes, or a reasonable facimily... its a black dragon shape..

Ill hafta type the bio out and scan the pic. not sure when ill have time, but ill try. im sure ive got pics of Nungessers spad, and 'maybe' some others..dunno...

Sorry if this is late, i hope you still need it. heres the info from Over the Front book on aces and units of the American and French AF.

Escadrille C65,N65,Spa65

This unit was formed at Lyon-Bron on 2 August 1915, as and Escadrille provisoire de chasse, under the command of Lieutenant Louis Gonnet-Thomas. It was equipped with two Nieuport XIs, three Nieuport XIIs and three Caudron GIVs and designated as C65.
On 24 October it came under VII Armee near Nancy, and when equipped totally with Nieuports became N65 on 21 February 1916. Three days later it moved to Behonnes, near Bar-le-Duc, from where the Co was killed in an accident on 2May, comand going to Lieutenant Georges Boillet, but he was killed in combat on the 17th, so Capitaine Philippe Fequant took over.
During June 1916 the unit moved to Cachy, made up aslo of N3, N73 and N103 under Felix Brocard. Then at the beginning of November N65 was asigned to Grouope de Combat 13 with N67, N112 and N124., Fequatn assuming command as Chef de Bataillon, while Capitaine Emile Billon du Plan took over N65, which remained with GC 13 for the duration.
GC 13 was based at Ravenal, operating under the command of the Groupe d'Armees du Nord. N65's first citation was recieved on 5 December 1916 and in the new year, the unit was flying both Nieuport XVII and Spad VII scouts. It was temporaily detached from GC 13 on 17 March while operating with VI Armee for the econd Balttle of the Aisne. On 29 April the CO was killed in an accedent so command went to Captiaine Lamy.
Transferred back to GC 13 on 3 June, in July it went to Flanders with Ier Armee, moving back to II Amree on 11 August, until it joined Vi Armee in September. It was now cited a second time, 16 November, for having downed 68 hostile aircraft and five balloons, which gave it the right to display the fourragere of the Croix de Guerre.
On 5 December, GC 13 moved to the Vi Armee Sector and on 24 January 1918, Capitaine Louis Sejourne took command , a post held till the end of te war. When Escadre de Combat No 2 was formed on 27 Februrary, GC 13 became part of it along with GC 17 and 20, under Commandant Fequant, GC 13 being commanded Capitaine Pearre Chevaier who replcaced Capitaine Jean d'Harcourt on 27 March. When the Ier Division Aerienne was formed on 14 May, Escadre No 2 was part of it.
Spa 65 was cited a third time on 10 September 1918 anda fourth citation was received just nine days later, for having downed its 100th hostile aircraft -- on 14 August. This last citation authorised the unit to dilplay the fourragere of the Medaille Militaire. When the war ended 108 victories had been credited to the Escadrille, almost a third of them by its leading pilot, Charles Nungesser.

Lt C Nungesser 33 (43)
Sgt J. Gerard 8
Sgt J. Sauvage 8
S/Lt E. Camplan 7
Adj M. Henriot 6
Lt R. de Bonnefoy 5 (6)
Lt L. Cayol 5
S/Lt G. Plessis 5
Adj G. Leinhard 3(5)

I suggest getting the Spad VII-XIII book from Glencoe models, as well as the Sqdn Signals book on the Spad, it has a pic of Henroits machine with dragon i spoke of in the Glencoe models book. also the color profile in center of Henroit's Spad from the pic.

good luck
and Salute!

I enjoyed your statment about Spa 65.But I have two questions that you may help.I would like to know the names from the pilots of that squadron that were killed in a fight over Laval with R. Windish pilot from Jasta 32b, on the 18th and 19th November of 1917. I guess the later was Oscar Torres a portuguese pilot but I don't know the name of the other.Do you know the serial numbers from their Spad 7s? And one mistery, there is a picture from a captured Spad 7 from Spa 65 that Windish used to fly as personal war trophy, I guess that this plane was one of the two mentioned above and I would like to know, wich one was it? The one from the 18th or 19th November?
Thanks in advance
Best Regards
