Although it seems Italian pilots did not find any particular difficulties in flying the A-1, it seems things went differently for USA, Polish and Argentinian pilots. While Polish accidents were explained with Plage&Laskiewicz low quality production standards, I wonder about the causes of the other accidents. Does anyone have any explanation ?

However, the Italian pilots don't like the plane too. I believe that you know what Baracca and others thought about the Balilla.

As for the Italian fighter pilots who test flew the aircraft, Mr. Weber is right in saying that their judgement was not entirely positive. However, as far as I know, there were not any complaints about the aircraft flying qualities. Pilots especially liked its speed and rate of climb. They simply asked for some detail modifications.

The Americans flying for the Poles against the Reds were quite complimentary re the Ansaldo especially as contrasted to the Albatross types. According to the book "The Flight of Eagles", the C.O., Fauntleroy, was a competent mechanic and orchestrated some carburetor modifications that were highly successful. Regards, Lee.
