I recently saw the movie LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and in one part, Turkish bombers bombed an arab camp. I wanted to know if anyone has seen that movie and identified those airplanes.

I've seen the movie at least a dozen times and recall the footage with the 'planes. I just don't remember what they used for that movie, or what they were supposed to be. However, I do remember that there have been quite a few threads on aeroplanes in the Middle East during the Great War; perhaps one of our resident experts can shed some light with better memory than I!

What the aircraft were to REPRESENT I do not know, but what they WERE is a different matter - Tiger Moths made to look like 1917 airplanes (in the manner than most Japanese "Zeros" in WW2 movies are made-over T-6 aircraft).

Although unfinished at his death, T E Lawrence's "The Mint", on his experiences in the interwar RAF is a fascinating read and a much better written than & pillars. The current Penguin edition of which has a good painting of a Handley Page. Interesting to think what Lawrence may have written if he had served through WWII in the RAF. Incidental trivia you probably already knew - at one point he was thrown out of the RAF by Captain W E Johns, of Biggles fame.

We recently visited the tank musuem at Bovington, the road Lawrence was killed on runs through the camp.Their is a plaque at the spot and another nearby erected by his Vickers machine gunner to the memory of Lawrence and the men who rode with him.
Lawrence has no living relatives, yet his grave is looked after and had new flowers when we saw it.On the grave was a fresh wreath from an Australian saying 'we crossed the earth to come to this place to pay our respects'.
