Peter, I was going to suggest that it is safe to assume that it was neither Mannock nor Allmenröder.

Mannock is portrayed as a "Hun-hater" in most books. Karl Allmenröder's brother was shot down by a Brit and then strafed when on the ground, receiving serious wounds. After being informed of this, Allmenröder showed no mercy to his enemy.
