I am desperatly seeking a picture of the SSH DIII which had a skull and cross bones on the side I believe it was flown by a Lt. Von Hantelman.
Any help will be appreciated. This is for a 1/4 scale model.

Don't know if by "picture" you mean a photo or a profile. This is what I have.

If anybody knows of a photo of this machine, I would definitely like to see it as well.
All I have seen to date are color profiles of it, and no photo.

Did Georg have successes in this plane? I know it was early in 1918 (May?) so the engine problems weren't solved, but . . . . ?

My Gallery
David & Matt:
When this thread came up, I went through all my SSW D.III data, etc. I could not find a photo of this D.III. I suspect that it is a construction not based on documentmented data. I wonder the source the artist used, that may be of help.
Blue skies,

Peter L, What was the source of the J-peg you posted? I would like to follow DSA's idea to try and chase the artist for the source.

This is almost certainly one of Bob Pearson's profiles, but I am not sure of what his background references are. Leave it to say, he does these with a great deal of care from what is known.

The one posted is not Pearson's. Another kind soul E-mailed me Pearson's and it had several discrepancies with this drawing. Pearson's was labeled as conjectural.

The profile is from " Eisernes Kreuz und Balenkreuz. Der Markierungen der deutschen Flugzeuge 1914-1918" by H J Nowarra. Colour drawings by Horst Lobner. Published Verlag Dieter Hoffmann 1967.

I would agree with DSA's opinion that is most likely a construction based on narrative rather than photographic evidence. If a photograph of such a dramaticaly marked machin existed I feel sure we would all have seen it by now. However, as a modeler myself I have no problem with "speculative" colour schemes.

cheers
