As an honorary Forumite, please accept this personal invitation to join the memorial and re-dedication ceremony for 2Lt Frank Luke, Jr. of the USAS 27th Aero Squadron in Murvaux, France, at the foot of the Luke Memorial at 11am, Saturday, November 18th, 2000.

Barrett and Billy, two pillars in our Forumite community as well as prominent aviation authors, will be in attendance as well as yours truly. The ceremony will be conducted by Post 605 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Paris, and representatives of the US Embassy, American Battle Monuments Commission and Friends of the War Memorials, London, have expressed interest in attending.

Attendees are advised to arrive an hour early for introductions and the short walk to the monument, which is located just west of Murvaux on the south side of the D102. Murvaux is in northeastern France, south of the cities of Montmedy and Stenay, north of Verdun, and 5 kilometers east of Dun-sur-Meuse. Dress warmly!

Your response will help us plan the event, and possible social events on the same day (Forumite Convention III???). This ceremony also marks the unveiling of the new plaque on the Luke memorial after more than two years of work. Thanks to each of you for your support and we hope to see you in Murvaux on November 18th.

Sincerely,

Stephen Skinner
Great War Aviation Memorial Committee

Stephen,

I appriciate the invitation, but sadly cannont attend (being a poor college student does that to one's travel plans). Still, I feel the work that has been done in restoring the monument was very valuable. Good job!

I won't be there in person, but I'll be there in spirit. Just don't think you'll get away without posting some pictures from the event.

Don't worry, I'll have plenty of photos to forward to Scott for posting. May write up another little piece on it as well. It also looks like Tim King (producer of proposed Luke documentary) may also be on hand to film the event and possibly some of the interviews I hope to do with town residents afterward. But I'll make sure some info and photos get posted.

I wish there were some way to broadcast this live over the net, I'd watch for sure. Have you reached your goal, btw, for monetary contributions?

VBR,

John Drury

John, I have at least two more donations on the way and yes, I think that will put us over the top (hey - a pun!). The big pressure is off now, though I hope my saying so doesn't kill extra donations that can be used for laying a wreath, establishing a permanent file re: Luke in Murvaux, covering misc. expenses, yadda yadda.
