G'day all,
Where would I find recommendations for the Victoria Cross. I am helping John Wood who is trying to find information on Simpson's unsuccessful VC recommendation.
I would also like to find others such as Dallas, Little and De la Rue to name some. If anyone knows of a particular file at the PRO or of someone who gathers information on these things could you please let me know.
Regards,
Andrew.

Andrew: You might contact the webmaster of the VC site that's linked to the Medals (UK subheading, VC subset) on the left side of this page. He's replied to me once or twice and may have a lead on such things.

I am interested in why Collishaw never got one, simply because RNAS was a bit more stuffy?

Kory,
The author of the book "In the teeth of the wind", Bartlett, agrees with you. I submitted a string about it several months ago.

Both of Collishaws VC recommendations ended up as DSO's as far as i can remember, why they were dwonsized i don't know!
One of them involved an attack on an airfield, which was similar to Bishops and was witnessed by Collishaw's wingman who was circling above.

Notwithstanding assorted vague recollections, there is no documentary evidence that Collishaw was recommended for a Victoria Cross. As to the "stinginess" of the RNAS with respect to Victoria Crosses, a post on this Forum several months ago compared RFC strength to RNAS strength and concluded that, proportionate to numbers of personnel, the RNAS fared no better or worse than the RFC. Check the Forum Archives.
