Fokker Dr I camouflage

I am preparing a Fokker Dr I model project, one in 1/72 scale based on eduard's DrI and one on Revell's 1/27 scale plus Copper State parts. I have always thought everything concerning Fokker Triplane camouflage has been written, but I have learned that the uppersides were painted as follows: On the ( cream ) linen at first the blue/gray/turqouise colour (which was painted solid on the undersites) was painted in streaks with a small brush, so that the cream basic was still visible. On this cream - streaky blue - base the familiar olive was painted in the well known way. Does anybody have an opinion to this theory? Thanks in advance!

The undersides of the Fok.DR.I were painted a solid sky blue and were then varnished with a copal varnish which has a yellowish cast which alters the skt blue to turquoise blue. The cross field under the lower wing were not painted sky blue but were only given thre coat of clear dope and one coat of varnish to water proof the fabric.
The sky blue wrapped around the sides of the fuselage 25 mm and also on the tailplane. All the fabric surfaces were given three coats of clear dope. The upper surfaces were painted first with one coat of olive brown streaking. Then the under surfaces were painted sky blue. After all fabric surface were camouflaged there was one coat of varnish to water proof the fabric.

With all this information available what a shame they made such a mess of the two Tripes in "The Blue Max".

Thanks for the plug Vic, and the promotion I was "only" a noncom.

Since the great "Right to Arm Bears" debate I have been maintaining a low profile and trying to restrict myself to model threads. You don't study WWI and not recognise the futility of taking up an entrenched possition

As a modeling problem the streaked green finish poses quite a problem. My method is to paint the whole airframe a gloss enamel "fabric colour and allow it to cure over a couple of days. The streaks I work up in small areas of just one or two square inches of the same fabric colour with the olive applied whilst it is still wet. When the whole airframe is done and dry I then apply a series of washes with olive green acrylic.

Sorry about the rank thingy. From my own experience in the armed forces many of the non-com ranks carries a much higher status than some of the the commisioned ranks.
