I am researching the Nieuport II - VI monoplanes of 1910 - 14 vintage. My aim is to write an article for the magazine of a NON PROFIT organization. Is there anyone able to suggest web sites containing relevant information ? Is anyone able to list German manufacturers which built the monoplanes under license or which built copies of them ? Any suggestion about the French and British operational records ?

Thanks in advance to all who will take the trouble to answer.

Unfortunately, none of my sources indicate that any of the Nieuport monoplanes were ever used operationally during WWI.

Either they did not see service in WWI, or their numbers were too little to be considered significant.

VBR,

Al Lowe

I seem to recall that at least one Nieuport monoplane was used as a seaplane by the British. Not sure, maybe someone with a bit more expertise can help.

Its also possible that the Russians used them some. Worth a look on that front.

Regards,

John Drury

The Flying Machines Press books on French and Russian aircraft have some info on these types.
The French military purchased ten Nieuport 6M for escadrille N12 and used them for recon in 1914 and early 1915.
Argentina, Greece, Italy, Japan, Russia, Siam, Spain, Sweden and the U.K. all purchased small quantities of various versions.
The Italian Macchi Co. license built Nieuport 6M and the Russian Dux license built about 300 Nieuport 4 in 5 basic versions.
The Nieuport 6H (seaplane version) was purchased by Turkey and the Royal Naval Air Service.

I seem to recall that the book Imperial Russian Air Service has some pictures scattered about and some limited information...

hi; if at all relevant, my references show that Nieuport monoplanes were used operationally by several air forces pre-WWI, in particular by the spanish in north Africa, the bulgarians in the Second Balkan War of 1913 and the french in their african colonies.

Best regards
Miguel
