I noticed there are meanwhile very many model builders and active researchers on the Forum and all are familiar with airplane profiles. I post every year the same question but the answers are unsatisfying until now.

Photographs of the airplane of the German ace pilot Büchner (40 victories) show the face of a werewolve (looks a little bit more like a lion in my mind) instead of the Balkenkreuz on the airframe. I saw profiles showing a yellow-brownish werewolve with either no pupils (like a zombie in a horror movie) or with red eyes! I think both is wrong. The photographs show a lighter colour, maybe green or a kind of light blue (or bernstein?)

Who of the experts knows the photographs and risks a guess? (Or can show a more trustworthy profile.)

Thanks.

Hannes

PS: Heavy arguments like in the Voss- and other threads are not necessary and not wished here.

Hannes,
I finally found the picture. yes, definately needs eyes....they 'appear' to be the same as the oval background, but its hard to tell. not close enough to it.

I found the one without eyes in Squadron signals, guess thats the one your talking about. its got errors on it seems. the aft fuselage to me looks white, not blue. looks like a rush job, the tongue isnt well done and the picture of the real one is more detailed....

Doesnt the Revell 1/32 kit from Germany sport these markings?? ill ck and see on Revells website if so....ive only got the 1/32 American kit in Jasta 18 colors....

beyond that, im probably in same boat as you... :[

Hi Ron,

thanks for the reply. I got the eye-less profile from a Swedish aviation fan at least 2 years ago. I scanned and enlarged the photographs and found also a many more detailed werewolve than on the profile. The face looked more animalic and had more little teeth. Good tip with the Revell-kit but I have not enough time for model building and BTW 2 left hands and all fingers are thumbs. Maybe master Revell himself can add some words too if he is accidently noticing this thread.

Thanks.

Hannes

Since all photos show the werewolf/lion to have very light eyes, I was thinking more of a very light blue-green for the irises and the rest of the eye being a light yellow. This is what I have for my R/C Fokker D.VII model, and the effect is sinister, which is probably what Buchner had in mind as well.

Thank you very much for the reply, Lyle!

That sounds really like a potential solution of the eye-question. Are you able and willing to send me a scanned photograph of your model?
