Is there any information about 2e lieutenant AE Amey. He was an observer in 55th Squadron which flew with DH 4 planes. He died on 16th September 1918 after his plane, which was flown by WE Johns, was shot down in a attack on Mannheim.
1 Who shot down the plane.
2 Is there more information about 55th Squadron.
3 Is there any imformation to be found on the WWW

Thank you very much for your help!

According to The Jasta War Chronology by Franks Bailey and Duiven ,2/Lt. A E Amey was shot down at 1330 in a DH9 F5712 over Alt-Eckendorf by Ltn G Weiner of JG 3 . The Pilot 2/Lt W E John was wounded and taken prisoner .

I hope that this is of assistance to you.

See The Cross & Cockade (International) Journal, Vol. 24, No. 1 for details regarding 55 Sqn. RAF. This is at least one reference.

Gents

William Earle Johns was born on 5 February 1893 and was the author of almost 100 Biggles books starting with the Camels are Coming in 1932. It was reading Biggles books instead of listening to the vicar's sermons each Sunday that got me hooked on WWI aviation over 30 years ago. Johns died on 21 June 1968 aged 75.
