Hi,
I'm sure the Dr.I was the same as the very early Fokker built D.VII, and it was simply the natural unpainted linen, but the color of the exterior paint would almost come through to the interior when the heavy "streaking" of the freshly loaded paint brush was applied. It was the same with the later lozenge covered D.VIIs, where the pattern would nearly come through the fabric on the interior.
Remember, the fuselage tubing was wrapped so as to prevent chaffing and to have something to sew onto, to anchor the fabric.
Best,
Dave W.
