Back in July, Gary Jacobs mentioned that a few Entente pilots had privately purchased parachutes. In his turn he referred to a reply in an earlier thread to the same thing. Does anyone know the identity of any Entente pilot who may have purchased a parachute privately ?

Hello Vin,

I have searched for that thread a couple of times between trips without success. It was a fairly recent one, and I believe it was posted in mid-late June. Unfortunately there is a gap there between the oldest Forum threads and the Archives.

Best I can remember, there was a shop in London that sold custom-made parachutes. I think the source was attributed to Ira Jones.

Personally, I have no sources acknowledging any Allied pilot who wore one, but I remember reading somewhere that Elliot White Springs wore a parachute late in the war.

I know this is not much help, but maybe someone out there has more info.

Best Wishes,
Gary
