So Bruno Stachel was modelled after Hermann Göring?

No,Bruno was the working class hero. All the rest were Huns,so take your pick for Fat Hermann.

Personally, i'm currently reading the book, and like it much better.

Bruno is definitely not as likeable as in the movie, I love authors who give their character's good flaws.

I would say book or film...Bruno has only one thing in common with Hermann, Ambition.

where given the choice between book and film, I would shred the film. However, the towel does not play quite as well in black and white as in color.

I agree with the towel comment...I don't think any book can portray Ursula Andress quite as well in that lovely scene...

The tie in with Hermann Göring and the Blue Max was that Goering flew the Dornier- Zepp DI prototype immediately before Reinhard who subsequently crashed to his death because of a structural failure. Goering was later named to replace Reinhard as head of JGI.

As an Englishman I must say Aces High was a much better film. Our chaps were absoloutley spiffing, and no damn poppsies, with or without towels.
My stiff upper lip quivers at the very thought.

The most memorable part of Aces High was the SE5A's getting into a scrap with a Fokker EIII.
Quite accurate don't you think. I still prefer the towel scene

Thank you one and all, gents. Veteran Forumites will appreciate that after about 3 years I Am Not Alone in my admiration of TTS (The Towel Scene) in TBM...

<Vic> they were Fokker E IV (2 guns) not one but I agree with your point. Unfortunately throwing in these outdated monos spoilled the dog fights in Aces High. I vote for the towel!!!!
