Andy,

I think I know a person in Germany who is possessing such a list but would you share such a list if you would intend to publish based on this list?

BTW: It´s NOT me.

Regards,

Hannes

Thanks Hannes, I take your point.
I was just curious as to how many units the Germans fielded and what their roles were.
This info seems easy to obtain for the RFC and others. I have not yet seen the same for Germany.

I can advice you an article-series of Mr. Mückler in the German magazine "Flugzeug" which is discussing the German airplane formations but I have to look for the source at first.

Additional I have seen some sources showing the re-numbering of the German Flieger-Abteilungen in the war (a confusing matter even for experienced historians). Earlier or later I have to do such a list for myself if nobody is writing a book and is taking away the plague of fabricating this "master list".

Andy,
you know the number of units was changing during the war, so I can give only an examples:

On 1.March 1918 the following Commands and Field-Formations existed:
20 Kommandeure der Flieger (Kofl),
16 Gruppenführer der Flieger (Grufl),
48 Flieger-Abteilungen a 6 airplanes,
68 FA (Artillerie) a 6 airplanes,
37 FA (Artillerie) a 9 airplanes,
6 FA of the Ottoman Heeresgruppe F,
1 JaGe (incl. Jasta 4, 6, 10, 11)
5 Jagdgruppenführer,
77 Jasta (excl. 4, 6, 10, 11),
30 Schlachtstaffeln,
2 Riesenflugzeug-Abteilungen (Nr. 500 and 501),
7 Bombengeschwader a 3 Staffeln, Geschwader Nr.6 with 6 Staffeln,
20 Armeeflugparks,
6 Reihenbildzüge,
2 Jasta-Schulen,
1 Flieger-Übungsabteilung (Sedan),
10 Kampfeinsitzerstaffeln (Heimatschutz),
1 Fliegerausbildungskommando (Sofia).

Plus a lot of Heimat- and Schul-Formations.
