The French pilot Eugen Gilbert had reportedly four victories. His victory against Keller/von Falkenstein (The photograph of the dead Vogel von Falkenstein, leader of FFA 23, is shown also in the Grub Street book "Casualties of the German Air Service".) was already his number 3. So I think he was the most successful pilot at least until January 1915 (?).

O´Connor reports in one of his books Gilbert had his first victory claim against two pilots of FFA 23 too on 18th November 1914 (In fact both landed with pierced fuel tank and claimed in return a victory against their MG-armed French counterpart - stayed unconfirmed.). The French LÍllustration reported about Gilbert in 1918 and claimed that his 1st victory occured on 2. November 1914!

Who is right?
a) L´Illustration: Gilberts 1st victory was on 2nd November?
B) O´Connor: Gilberts 1st victory was on 18th november?
c) "Both": On one of both data Gilbert achieved a confirmed victory, on the other data an unconfirmed victory?

Regards

Hannes
