Apologies gang if this has already been dealt with, but I'm an infrequent attendee...Does anyone know what happened to the contents of the Richthofen home in Schweidnitz when the Russians overran it during WWII? We've all seen the photos of the "Richthofen Museum" with his trophies, fabric swatches, and other memorabilia. I heard that they took it to Russia, but what ever happened to it all? Does anybody know? Thanks!

Jim;
We know that the Russians crated everything up, and shipped it away. The Russians now claim they know nothing about it.

The contents of the Richthofen museum are stored in a warehouse in Moscow. There have been several unofficial "behind the scenes" negotiations between both governments with the Russians reportedly wanting in the area of 10 million for the return. The present day Richthofen family is opposed to paying any type of restitution for the return so the matter has not been pursued more vigorously.

The Russians also denied any knowledge of Priams Treasure that Schlemann dug up at Troy. That was looted from the Berlin Museum at the end of WW2. It only came to light with the end of Communist rule. I'm sure there are plenty of rich Yanks out there that would whip out the cheque book if they thought that they could buy MvR's collection! The poor ol' Baron would be doing 1200rpm in his grave!

If I was a rich Yank, I would buy it and return the collection to the von Richthofen family.

Ditto, guys!

My apologies for being an insensitive brute!
