In grade school I read a series of novels that pitted a German jasta "red devils" against an English sgdn. "black cats". This was in the late 50's. Probably published in the 20's or 30's. Author and title unknown. Anyone?? Author unknown. Anyone??

Probably not the slightest use but there was a publisher before the war who did "The Airman's Bookshelf" mainly Non fiction and W.W.1. but they also did a fiction collection of air stories under the heading "The Ace Series." it contained the first Biggles stories by W.E.Johns.
There was one other prolific author George E. Rochester who published air stories under such graphic titles as 'Despot of the World' and the 'Black Squadron'. I read a lot of them as a boy but not the last.
There were other authors and one was by Col. L. Driggswith a book called 'Secret Squadron.'
The publisher was John Hamilton and they were bombed out of business in 1941. THeir stock was remaindered through Woolworths during Xmas 1941/2.
I should think there is a collector out there somewhere who is sitting on the whole series.
Do any of the titles or authors' names ring a bell?

Well, I don't have any information on your request but I do know of three WW1 novels written by Peter Saxon:
The Unfeeling Sky
The Enemy Sky
The Warring Sky

Unfortunately I only have the latter still in my possesion.

These were printed late 60's early 70's by Beagle Books of New York, with a notation that it is published in arrangement with Howard Baker Publishers Limited.
