The book "Wegbereiter deutscher Luftgeltung" ((1941) deals on page 96 to 120 with Fieseler and gives the following data:
Born 15.April 1896 in Glesch (Regierungsbezirk Köln), oldest of 11 children. 1910-1914 he learned the job of a printer and a business man.
In WWI he achieved 19 confirmed victories. Three (not two) stayed unconfirmed (nickname: TIGER). His awards were:
Goldenes Militärverdinestkreuz, Iron Cross I. and II.class, Austrian bravery medal in Silver, Bulgarian bravery cross I., II., III., and IV.class and Pilots badge. Additional he got the Olympic badge II.class (maybe in the 30s).
After the war he was leading the enterprise of his father (print and paper) in Eschweiler (Rheinland). 1926 he gave his job away and started to fly again. He was teacher and partner in the airplane factory of Raab & Katzenstein in Kassel. He became repeatedly champion of Germany, Europe and the world with his brilliant art of flying in the following years. In 1932 he founded an own little airplane factory, changed the name 19139 in "Gerhard Fieseler Werke GmbH". He produced civil and military airplanes including the famous "Storch".
Dark spot: His enterprise was two times awarded as "Nationalsozialistischer Musterbetrieb".
