Whilst researching Turnberry Airfield, Scotland I have come accross a photo of "Capt.E.F.French, famous scout pilot and horseman", taken at Turnberry 1917. Does anyone know anything about this gentleman.
Also, where could I find information about aircraft accidents at Turnberry WW1.

Margaret,
Are you sure the initials are E F ? I can tell you quite a lot about C E French. You should be able to find a file on accidents at Turnberry in the PRO under Air 1.

Dear Alex, Thanks for your reply. I have looked again at the photographs, the picture in question was taken at Turnberry 1917, and shows a man standing up on the back of a gallopping horse. He has a very large moustache and is wearing leather chaps and a type of cowboy hat. The photo is signed " Wishing you good luck 'for or from' Jeffrey Silant" .The inscription underneath the photo ( it is mounted in an album) is: Capt. E. FFrench ( Famous Scout Pilot and Horseman)
He also appears in a group picture of pupils at Turnberry dated Sept 17th 1917, inscribed to Sgt Maller from Squad 10, he has personally signed the back of the picture and it is unclear whether his initial is C or E the surname he has spelt ffrench. Can you help ?.
Regards Margaret

Dear Margaret,
Sorry can't help with your French. Mine was C E and he was taken POW in May 1917, so obviously not the same man.
