Whew...its been loooong time since I've been to this site, let alone posted. Good to see so many of the regulars are still here.

Recently I dusted off my copy of The Sky On Fire and it got me interested all over again. Well, now I'm interested in learning more about the British bombing raids on Germany, most of which I believe occurred in the closing months of the war. Judging by the amount of Handley Paige bombers built, I have to assume that a great number were used on big city targets in Germany. No where can I seem to find literature on British bombing actions again Germany. The German Gotha raids are well-documented and they are riveting reads. Now, if only I can find something on the English ones..... Any suggestions?

Do any of these books give detailed descriptions of the actual missions flown into Germany? I have to imagine that the British heavy bomber raids on Germany near the end of the war were far more extensive than those the Germans waged against England. I still can't believe more attention has not been given to this subject. I've always been fascinated by First World War "strategic" bombing. Daring, even insane to a degree when you consider what the Germans risked by crossing the channel in those old Gothas and Giants. Incidentally, I noticed that a Giant bomber was never shot down in the raids against England and have to wonder, was a Giant EVER shot down in the war at all? They were HUGE, burley aircraft that must have been a real mother to bring down.

Some outstanding Handley Page ops info. at <Patrick Wilson> or <patrickwilson.com/RFC/.html>. His RFC site is based on his father's scrapbook and a lengthy interview with a vet. of 100 Sqdn.
