They did, but use metric measurements <grins>. The Germans relied far more on their observation balloons to 'call the shots' than the Allies, though; Trenchard's policy of 'always attack' saw to that - and so won 'the war in the air', by forcing the German Air Service onto the defensive, albeit suffering four times as many casualties as the latter. 'Faint hearts don't win wars', for sure; didn't reveal 'the picture on the other side of the hill',y'see . . .
