Value of 1st Edition Volume - FTFC

I have a copyright 1919 edition of Eddie Rickenbacker's "Fighting the Flying Circus". Is this the first edition of this book? I am trying to find out its value, but am not necessarily interested in selling it. The cover is blue, with orange lettering. It is in excellent condition, no torn pages, no wear of the cover, and it contains a signed message from Captain Rickenbacker. Here's the text:
"To my young friend
'John Landon'
May the flight of Time
Bring Only
Friends, Happiness, + Prosperity.
Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker"
The ink is very old, and someone went over the just the date recently with a pen, with the effect that the date is obscured.
I would appreciate any info regarding this book and its value.
