Actually, I am AFRAID there might be. Imagine the box-office appeal: Leonardo de Caprio in another early 20th century romantic film...this one with airplanes and machine guns instead of ships and iceburgs.
Wynona Ryder as The Woman in Manfred's Life.
Hmmm...on the other hand, how about Claudia Schiffer featuring in The Towel Scene?
Smack!
Oh...thanks, I needed that.

I'd like to see THE BLUE MAX re-made. Think of the boost it would recieve with modern SFX and possibly even accurate color schemes on the planes!
And maybe even some decent acting (James Mason exempted). And an ending as Hunter intended . . .
And

The problem with movies is that they are all about money, accuracy is not a consideration.
Hence Braveheart, U-572 and now the Patriot.

Geeeeeeeze, how about a PLOT as Mr. Hunter intended.
The BOOK had a wonderful subplot about the horrors of alcoholism and the frailty of the human soul. All of this was glossed over by the Hollywood moguls in order to produce an "epic" picture.
Despite the "towel," I believe they missed their mark: while the potential was certainly there for an Oscar-winning screenplay.

They would probably have MvR with a big scar on the side of his face and a monacle.

If they do make another MvR movie, they'll butcher that one too. Hollywood has one basic, fundamental misunderstanding that they just can't seem to come to grips with... the truth is often better than any fiction they could come up with. MvR, Luke, the story of the Titanic or the gunfight at the OK Corral... all would be far better off if they just told what happened. These stories don't need any improvement, but movie producers can't seem to keep their hands off a good thing.
The Patriot is another good example.... grrrrr! But, it is a very entertaining film, it accurately depicts battle scenes of the time, and most importantly, it shows the price that was paid for the freedom that we're now selling to the highest bidder. I'll take my kids to see it for that reason alone. So I guess that's enough to make me a Patriot supporter... but I sure wish they'd just told the story of Francis Marion like the script was originally written.

Well, when I went to see "The Perfect Storm" (recommended) they showed a trailer for a movie called "Pearl Harbor".
If this movie was made by the PC crowd, we'll probably have a wide screen apology to the Japanese.

John:
In the book Stachel warns Heidemann not to fly the new monoplane. H smells cognac on S's breath, flies it anyway, and is killed in the crash.
Artist interpretation? Interpreted from photos. Much more is known now that in '66.
Inaccuracies include:
pateé crosses in spring 1918
lozenge on Pfalz fuselages
British planes were not pea-green
Fokker D.VIIs not used in Spring Offensive
Gotta go, but I'm sure others will add to this list.
