From June 25th; Paul J. Fisher posted the following:

Working for an auction house, I recently encountered a woman whose father flew for Germany during WWI (he subsequently was persecuted by the Nazis). From a stack of photos he appears to have manned two Albatros variants. The images include field and aerial views, a hangar or factory, and some graphic crash shots.

I'm pleased to report Paul was so kind as to sent me those photos and has requested that I post them here at the Forum. In an effort to reduce file sizes, I have taken the liberty to crop off the print edges and have adjusted brightness/contrast etc. Click on the LVG factory pic to view the index of the entire set of 12 photos.

Any feedback in helping identify a/c type/model#, location, or other details would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

You don't think that maybe the source of these pics maybe a LVG test pilot. Just a hypothesis.

I am really curious about a few things in some of these pics.

1) what does it say in the top left corner of LVG factory pic.

2) whose the suit in the last pic

3) what's on the ground in the recon pic, no flak would suggest friendly territory.

I don't think the shot is inside the LVG factory, since the aircraft appear in consistent squadron markings rather than a factory finish. More likely it's a large permanent hangar; perhaps a training squadron or something similar?

The aircraft in the middle of the photo is an Albatros CVII. Based on the camoflague pattern, it is a BFW (Bavarian Flying Works) built example. The two rudders to the lower right are Rumplers, CI or CIV. I see two Albatros D typesin the background. The two aircraft center-right appear to also be Alb. C7's. Clues are the rudder/fin, the aileron with the balance 3/4 to the tip and the piant scheme. The scene is either a factory or a repair facility.

Those are not LVG's in the factory photo. Wrong strut configuration for the the LVG. I have the LVG book Flugzeug and this picture is not in it.

Here are the description of the other photos. Given the use of BFW built aircraft, the original owner was either with a Bavarian recon unit or associated with the BFW factory.

Frnt C - This is a Rumpler CI
Appinflt - LVG CII
inflt - From the radiator shape/location and the shape of hte upper fuselage, I believe this is a LVG CII.
inverted photos: The same Rumpler CII turned turtle.
LVG CII- Nope, Rumpler CI
recon - Nice photo cannot id aircraft, early C type or b type
Stnd - Albatros CVII
Stndg C - Rumpler CI
Stndg D - Albatros CVII (BFW), unusual exhaust and BFW scheme.

Are these photos still up for bid? If so, is there a way I can bid on these from the states?

Looking at the Rumplers with the Datafile in hand, I can elaborate further:
LVGCII- This is a Rumpler CI built by Rumpler as the second last in the 03/16 construction order. This was determined by serial #.
Stndg C is a Rumpler CI and by the serial # placement and paint scheme this is a Hansa Brandenberg built aircraft from a 1916 purchase order. No guns are mounted and therefore possibly an advance trainer.

Since the Rumplers are not BFW examples, the photographer was in a Feldflieger Abteilung unit.

David,
First off, thanx for the a/c identifications! Secondly, there are more to come from this collection.
I will bring your interest to Paul Fisher's attention immeadiately and have him email you.
