I'm in the middle of an excellent book: "Duty" by Bob Greene.
As Greene's father lay dying of cancer, Greene struck up a friendship with a local resident whom his father always referred to with the greatest admiration: Paul Tibbets.
This is a great insight into the character of Tibbets, as well as the character of the elder Greene, who served as an infantry officer in WWII.
Check it out.

Mike,

I just ordered "Duty" last night from Military Book Club. It certainly looks excellent. Right now, I'm starting "Flags of our Fathers", by James Bradley, another heartfelt tribute to those who fought in WWII. Bradley's father was the last survivor of the six men in the second flag raising on Mt. Suribachi - probably the most famous military photo in history (which, incidentally, was never allowed to be shown in the Bradley home while his father was alive). After his father died, James found out all he could about the six men involved, and the story behind the photograph. With this book, he allows all of us to know these men as much more than just figures in a famous image.
